At the end of July 2018, we traveled to London from Thursday evening, July 26 to Monday morning, July 30. It was a special city trip to London for my birthday. There is deliberately no blog per day, but we have made a top 10 of the best sights in London.

Eind juli 2018 zijn we vanaf donderdagavond 26 juli tot maandagvoormiddag 30 juli naar Londen gereisd. Het was een speciale citytrip naar Londen voor mijn verjaardag. Er is bewust geen blog per dag bijgehouden, maar we hebben wel een top 10 van de beste bezienswaardigheden in Londen gemaakt.

10 Greenwich - viewpoint nulmeridiaan

A visit to Greenwich should not be missed. We visited the viewpoint over the city and where the prime meridian runs through. This part is free, if you want to be completely on the platform, you have to pay £ 13.50 per adult.

It is a beautiful place but very busy in high season.

Een bezoekje aan Greenwich, mag zeker niet ontbreken. Wij bezochten het uitzichtpunt over de stad en waar de nulmeridiaan doorheen loopt. Dit gedeelte is gratis, als je volledig op het platform wilt staan, dien je £13,50 per volwasse te betalen.

Het is een mooie plaats maar wel erg druk in het hoogseizoen.

9 The Southbank

Walking along the river is worthwhile during the day as well as in the evening. There are numerous museums, nice restaurants and photo opportunities along this trail. The South Bank is the perfect spot for a wander along the Thames or a drink with a view of the city skyline.

Wandelen langs de rivier is zowel overdag als s avonds de moeite waard. Er zijn talrijke museums, leuke restaurants en fotomomenten langs deze weg. De South Bank is de perfecte plek voor een wandeling langs de Theems of een drankje met uitzicht op de skyline van de stad.

8 Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey is a church built mainly in Gothic style in London. It is traditionally the place where coronations and funerals of members of the British royal houses take place.

We have visited Westminster Abbey from opening time, because it can get very busy here with waiting times of more than an hour. During the visit no filming or photography is allowed inside the church. Even though we have not been allowed to take pictures, we will not soon forget this place. We stood at the grave of Isaac Newton and Stephen Hawking.

Not to mention an impressive list of kings and queens of the British monarchy lie in this beautiful church.

Westminster Abbey is een voornamelijk in gotische stijl opgetrokken kerk in Londen. Het is traditioneel de plaats waar kroningen en begrafenissen van leden van de Britse vorstenhuizen plaatsvinden.

Wij hebben Westminster Abbey vanaf openingstijd bezocht, want het kan hier zeer druk worden met wachttijden van meer dan een uur. Tijdens het bezoek mag er niet gefilmd of gefotografeerd worden binnenin de kerk. Ook al hebben we geen foto's mogen nemen, we zullen deze plaats niet snel vergeten. We stonden aan het graf van Isaac Newton en Stephen Hawking.

Niet te vergeten een indrukwekkende lijst aan koningen en koninginnen van de Britse monarchie liggen in deze prachtige kerk.

7 Hyde Park & Kensington Gardens

The most famous and largest park in London is Hyde Park. This park is connected to Kensington Gardens.

It is the ideal place to take a rest, away from the many tourists and the center of London.

The park has a number of well-known attractions, including the Serpentine Lake, Marble Arch, Speakers' Corner and the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain.

Het bekendste en grootste park in Londen is Hyde Park. Dit park is verbonden met Kensington Gardens.

Het park is de ideale plaats om even tot rust te komen, weg van de vele toeristen en het centrum van Londen.

In het park zijn een aantal bekende attracties te vinden, waaronder het Serpentine Lake, Marble Arch, Speakers’ Corner en de Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain.

6 Cahoots

My partner had reserved a special place for my birthday to end our last evening in London with style.

Without realizing it, I ended up in an underground 40s cocktail bar. The underground bar has been completely converted into a 40s cocktail bar with numerous tasty cocktails and live jazz music.

Reservations are necessary and the cocktails are on the pricey side, but it made an experience richer at the nice place "Cahoots".

Mijn partner had voor mijn verjaardag een speciale plaats gereserveerd om onze laatste avond in Londen met stijl af te sluiten.

Zonder het te beseffen, kwam ik terecht in een ondergrondse jaren 40 cocktailbar. De ondergrondse bar is volledig omgebouwd in een jaren 40 cocktailbar met talrijke lekkere cocktails en live jazz muziek.

Reserveren is noodzakelijk en de cocktails zijn aan de prijzige kant, maar het maakte een ervaring rijker bij de leuke plaats "Cahoots".

5 Buckingham Palace with changing of the Guard

The first day after our visit to Westminster Abbey, we went to Buckingham Palace.

The changing of the guard starts at 11 am. The changing of the guard is an official transfer of responsibility for the safety of Buckingham Palace and St. James's Palace.

Despite the enormous crowds, we were able to get a spot on the outside of Buckingham Palace. After the change of guard, we went to the front of Buckingham Palace for a photo opportunity.

Buckingham Palace is the official residence of the British monarch in London.

De eerste dag na onze bezoek aan Westminster Abbey, hebben we ons begeven naar Buckingham Palace.

Vanaf 11u start de wisseling van de bewaker. De aflossing van de wacht of wisseling van de wacht is een officiële overdracht van de verantwoordelijkheid voor de veiligheid van Buckingham Palace and St. James's Palace.

Ondanks de enorme drukte, konden we nog een plekje bemachtigen aan de buitenkant van Buckingham Palace. Na de wisseling van wacht, hebben we ons naar de voorkant van Buckingham Palace begeven voor een fotomoment.

4 Afternoon Tea (with visit Fan Museum)

London is obviously known for its afternoon tea with tasty desserts.

If you want to experience London to the full, you should definitely reserve an afternoon tea. There are numerous offers with different price ranges.

My partner had found one in Greenwich, just at the Fan Museum. This museum is also worth a visit, which opened in 1991, is the world's first museum dedicated to the preservation and display of fans.

We chose the Afternoon Tea Menu. This costs only £ 9.00 per person and with access to the museum. Only available on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The menu includes:

Tea or coffee

Carrot Cake

A choice of lemon drizzle cake or salted caramel brownie

Scone with clotted cream & jam

It was very nice and cozy with friendly service.

Londen staat uiteraard bekend om zijn afternoon tea met lekkere dessertjes.

Als je Londen ten volle wilt beleven, dien je absoluut een afternoon tea te reserveren. Er zijn talrijke aanbiedingen met verschillende prijsklasses.

Mijn partner had eentje gevonden in Greenwich, net bij het Fan Museum. Ook dit museum is een bezoekje waard, dat in 1991 werd geopend, is 's werelds eerste museum gewijd aan het behoud en de weergave van waaiers.

Wij kozen voor de Afternoon Tea Menu. Dit kost slechts £9.00 per persoon en met toegang tot het museum. Enkel te verkrijgen op dinsdag, vrijdag, zaterdag en zondag.

Het menu omvat:

Thee of koffie wortel cake

een keuze van citroen cake of gezouten caramel brownie Scone met slagroom en confituur

Het was enorm lekker en gezellig met vriendelijke bediening.

3 Thriller Live

During our weekend in London, we went to see the "Thriller Live" show.

The show plays in an old theater building, nice and cozy and in the Hollywood style.

My partner had reserved two places on the balcony in the first row. Nobody could obstruct our view, the ideal places for this show.

The show starts and what a spectacle. Songs of The Jacksons 5 pass by with a live band and fantastic singing performance. The singing qualities are over the tops, so good is this show.

A look-a-like from MJ is pretty popular and once his dancing qualities come up, we no longer know where to look first.

In short, an absolute must if you want to see MJ his songs and dance moves live again. Filming and photographing is unfortunately not allowed during the show.

Tijdens ons weekendje Londen, zijn we naar de show “Thriller Live” gaan kijken.

De show speelt in een oud theater gebouw, lekker gezellig en in de Hollywood – stijl.

Mijn partner had twee plaatsen aan het balkon op de eerste rij gereserveerd. Niemand kon ons het zicht belemmeren, de ideale plaatsen voor deze show.

De show begint en wat een spektakel. Liedjes van The Jacksons 5 passeren de revue met een live band en fantastische zangprestaties. De zangkwaliteiten zijn over de toppen, zo goed is deze show.

Een look-a-like van MJ valt behoorlijk goed in de smaak en eens zijn danskwaliteiten naar boven komen, weten we niet meer naar waar eerst te kijken.

Kortom een absolute aanrader als je MJ zijn liedjes en danspasjes nog eens live wilt meemaken. Het filmen en fotograferen is helaas niet toegelaten tijdens de show.

2 The Tower Bridge

The Tower Bridge is a bridge completed in 1894 on the River Thames in London and nowadays a tourist attraction. He is next to the Tower of London, to which he also owes his name.

As a lover of bridges, this European bridge is worth a visit. We have walked over the bridge to take a closer look at the bridge.

De Tower Bridge is een in 1894 voltooide brug over de rivier de Theems in Londen en tegenwoordig een toeristische attractie. Hij ligt naast de Tower of London, waaraan hij ook zijn naam dankt.

Als liefhebber van bruggen, is deze Europese brug een bezoekje waard. Wij hebben gewandeld over de brug om de brug van dichterbij te bekijken.

1 The Tower of London

An absolute stop in London is at the Tower of London.

We had bought tickets for the morning (from opening), as it can get very crowded here. Visit the crown jewels first and then you can discover the entire domain.

The Tower of London is one of the oldest buildings in London. It was built in 1087 by order of William the Conqueror and served as a defense against the Normans. The Tower of London has had various functions. So it has been a palace, a prison and a fort.

Today it is a museum and especially famous for the crown jewels of the British royal family that can be viewed there. In addition to the crown jewels, you can also find weapons, armor and completely reconstructed rooms.

It is a fantastic place full of history! An absolute must! The tickets cost £ 24.50 per adult.

Een absolute stop in Londen, is bij de Tower of Londen.

Wij hadden tickets gekocht voor in de ochtend (vanaf opening), aangezien het hier heel druk kan worden. Bezoek eerst de kroonjuwelen en daarna kan je heel het domein ontdekken.

De Tower of London is een van de oudste gebouwen in Londen. Het is in 1087 gebouwd in opdracht van Willem de Veroveraar en diende ter berscherming tegen de Noormannen. De Tower of London heeft diverse functies gehad. Zo is het een paleis, een gevangenis en een fort geweest.

Tegenwoordig is het een museum en vooral beroemd door de kroonjuwelen van het Britse koningshuis die er bekeken kunnen worden. Naast de kroonjuwelen kunt u er onder andere wapens, harnassen en compleet gereconstrueerde kamers vinden.

Het is een fantastische plek vol met geschiedenis! Een absolute aanrader! De tickets kosten £ 24,50 per volwassene.
